This week we had so much fun learning the importance of books and how much we love them.
Morah started by talking about what a book is. A book has a cover, a back cover, and some pages in the inside. A book has pictures and letters that make up words. A book can be soft or hard, It can be small, medium, or big. We have to use two fingers to turn the pages slowly and carefully to keep our books good.
We learned about a place were we can BORROW books. BORROW is when we can take books and read them at home then we have to bring them back so other children can have a turn. A librarian is the person that works at the library and she lets us take the books home.
To take the books home we need to use a library card.
To make a library for our community wall we each got our own little books and colored the cover, inside, and back to put on our library.
Morah taught us about an Author and an Illustrator. An Author is the person that wrote the words and the Illustrator drew the pictures in each book.
Morah Rivky is an Author and Illustrator of a book called "My Silly Frog Ted". She read us her book and showed us all the words and pictures she made.
We can be Authors and Illustrators too. Morah gave us each a blank book and we made letters and pictures in ours.
Since we have been learning so much about the Library and books. We went on a trip to the Library.
In the library we sat and listened to the librarian tell us about the library. She told us some stories and sang with us some songs. We touched different toy characters in the books she was reading and we danced to music.
We lined up and went upstairs to look at all the children's books in the library.
We had a lot of fun reading them.
Morah showed us her Library card that we will use to BORROW some library books.
We all got to choose one book to borrow and take back to school. Morah helped us use the library card to scan the books and take them out.
In the end the librarian gave us a special pouch for a library card and a magic pencil that changes colors.
Learning about the Library and Literacy month was so much fun. To end the month we had a pajama book party.
We sat together and spoke about our month and our library trip.
Morah took out our borrowed library books and let us read it. We had a lot of fun guessing who picked each book to bring back to the classroom.

We had a book fair and brought in $10 to buy books. A book fair is not like a library. At a book fair we buy books at a library we can borrow them.
Morah showed us all the books and we each got a turn to come up and pick one to buy.
As we waited for everyone to pick their books some of us started reading ours.
