Community Helper: Police
We learned that the police help us in our Community. They help keep us safe.
We learned that a police officer wears a hat, a police jacket, and a special badge with numbers on it.
The Police officer uses walkie talkies to talk with other police officers and has hand cuffs on there belt to keep us safe.
We worked together coloring the word "Police" and gluing down foam blue shapes to make our Police Station for our community wall.
We learned that police keep us safe by stopping cars that drive to fast, helping us find our mommy an daddy is we get lost, and is we get into an accident they help talk to us and keep us safe.
We also learned that some police officers help us cross the street. They use a stop and go sign.
The Letter of the Week is "S". Stop starts with the letter "S"
The Stop sign is red and the Go sign is green. Morah showed us how we are going to color our own stop and go sign.
As a fun game we practiced walking around the classroom and following Morah the Police officer. When it was "GO" we can walk when it said "Stop" we had to stop walking.
We had a lot of fun playing this game. Look at our smiling faces. |
We sat down and colored our Stop and Go signs
We used the Stop and Go sign game to go upstairs to the playroom.
We had fun using our Police costume in the Dramatic play center
Community Helper: Grocer
We learned that the grocery is a place where we can buy food and things we need. The Grocer helps us by opening an closing the store, keeping the store clean, and letting us give them money to pay for the food.
Since it is Literacy Month we had a special visitor Morah Rivky's grandmother came to read us a book called "Lets go shopping". The book taught us about all the stuff we can buy at the grocery store.
Since we were learning about the Grocery store and the Bracha Hadama (the blessing on vegetables) Morah decided to take us on a trip to the Grocery store down the street to buy some vegetables to make a salad for lunch.
We found a green pepper and a red pepper
We found an apple. It is a fruit that grows on a tree.
We found some grapes and a potato
We found a tomato and may other fruits and vegetables
Morah called up some friends to help put some cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers into a bag to bring back to school
We said "HI" to the Grocer and we handed over the bags of vegetables to buy.
We gave her some money and paid for our vegetables.
Back at school the next day we talked about our trip to the Grocery store and we discussed all the fruits and vegetables we saw.
Morah showed us in toys different fruits and vegetables. We spoke about the ones we saw in the store and we sorted the ones we bought. We talked about what color the fruits and vegetables were then we had to pick a fruit or vegetable picture and a crayon to color it to make our Grocery store for our community wall.
We went to the table to cut up the vegetables we bought from the grocery store.
We made the Bracha Hadama and ate our vegetables for lunch
