On Tuesday, May 19, we welcomed a new month in our Hebrew calendar. The month of Sivan.
We learned that in this month we celebrate the holiday of Shavuot.
Shavuot comes from a Hebrew word sheva witch means number 7. From the second day of Pesach we count 7 weeks (49 days) Until Hashem gave us the Torah. We learned that the Torah teaches us to do Mitzvot.
We Loved listening to the story of Shavuot
After Hashem took us out of Mitzraim, he had a special present, to give to the people. It was the Torah
to anyone who wants it. What is inside a Torah? Mitzvot and stories of the Jewish people. We
learn different things from them. Who is Hashem, how Hashem made the world. How Hashem loves us. Hashem went to all the nations and they all said we don't have time for the Torah.
Finally, Hashem went to the Jewish people and they said Naase V’nishma, we will do and we will listen! Hashem is so happy, he decides to give it to the Jewish people. Hashem was looking for a special mountain to give the Torah on, and he chose the little mountain called Har Sinai. Because he was just very humble. All the Jewish people stood around the Har Sinai and Moshe started to climb up to bring us the Torah. From the second day of Pesach we count 49 days which is 7 weeks until we got the Torah. These days are called Sefirat Haomer.
Song-
Hashem gave us a present, do you know what it was?
He gave us the Torah so we must keep it's laws.
He asked the other nations, do you want this gift of mine?
They said, no thank you! For the Torah there’s no time!
(2 X’s) Then to the Beni Israel (Jewish people), Hashem did go,
They said, “Naase V’nishma” because we love Hashem so!

Song:
I am a mountain so very high,
I can reach way up to the sky,
The Torah should be given on me,
cause I am the tallest mountain you see!
I am a mountain so very pretty,
I am a mountain so very high,
I can reach way up to the sky,
The Torah should be given on me,
cause I am the tallest mountain you see!
I am a mountain so very pretty,
gorgeous flowers are all over me,
the Torah should be given on me,
cause I am the prettiest mountain you see!
But little Har Sinai just stood there and sighed,
I know I’m not pretty, I know I’m not high.
The Torah won’t be given on me,
cause I am just a little montain you see!
From all the Mountains, Hashem chose Sinai
cause he did not hold himself high,
The Torah should be given on him,
cause he's just a little humble mountain you see!
the Torah should be given on me,
cause I am the prettiest mountain you see!
But little Har Sinai just stood there and sighed,
I know I’m not pretty, I know I’m not high.
The Torah won’t be given on me,
cause I am just a little montain you see!
From all the Mountains, Hashem chose Sinai
cause he did not hold himself high,
The Torah should be given on him,
cause he's just a little humble mountain you see!
What do we do on Shavous?
• We hear the ten commandments (Aseres Hadibros) in Shul.
• On Shavous we eat very special, dairy foods.
• Why do we eat dairy?
• 1) Before the Jews got the Torah, they didn't know how to kill animals so they would be kosher, so they ate only dairy food.
• 2) Because Shavout is the day, Yocheved put Moshe in the water, and Moshe would only drink Kosher milk from a Jewish mommy. We eat dairy to remember this.
We were very excited to climb the mountain of Har Sinai and count the Sefirat Haomer every morning .

Hurray! We did it! We counted 49 days, and it's finally Shavuot.
We all worked hard to make yummy Har Sinai cupcakes.
CHAG SAMEACH!
