Sukkot
Getting ready for Sukkot
This week we learned about the third holiday in Chdesh Tishrei which is Sukkot.
We talked about how the Jews were in the hot desert and Hashem wanted to protect them from the sun, so he placed clouds all around them. To remember the special things Hashem did for us then, we build a Sukka today to remind us of Hashem’s kindness.
The Sukka is made of four walls on each side and wood and leaves on the top called Schach. We leave the roof open so it can remain open under the sky. We try to eat and drink inside of the Sukka for as much as possible during 7 days of the holiday.
We had alot of fun making a little Sukkah on paper to use as decoration for Sukkot.
We also built a Sukka with the wooden blocks.
Lulav and Etrog
On Sukkos we do a special
Mitzvah of Lulav and Etrog.
Lulav-
tall and skinny palm branch
Etrog-
yellow and round
Hadasim-
3 branches of leaves on a stem
Aravos-
2 branches of leaves on a stem
Some
of these items have a smell and/or taste while others don’t. It shows that even
though we are all different we can still all be friends.
We make a Bracha and shake them altogether frontwards,
downwards, right, left, upwards, and downwards 3 times.
We were all excited to make our very own
Lulav & Etrog
CHAG SAMEACH TO YOU ALL
