Log B'omer

  Log B'omer

On April 20, we welcomed a new month in our Hebrew calendar. The month of Iyar.
We learned that in this month, we celebrate the holiday of Lag B'omer.

We enjoyed listening to the story of Lag B'omer and way we celebrate this holiday.

Along time ago, there was a shepherd boy named Akiva. He didn't go to school. Instead, he took care of his  sheep all day and night. When Akiva grew up he married a girl named Rachel. Rachel told Akiva that he should go to school to learn Torah.Akiva was nervous and said, “I’m 40 years old! And I don’t even know the Alef- Bet! I can’t go to School! Rachel told him to be brave and go to school anyways. Akiva listened and went to school with all the little children. Akiva began to learn all day and all night.

Akiva continued to learn and progress to higher grades until he himself become a great Rabbi and was teaching his students how to do Ahavat Israel.
What is Ahavat Israel?

Ahavat Israel means loving our friends like we love our self and being kind to others the same way we would want others to be to us.

Hashem was very upset that the students weren't getting along with  each other. After Pesach, for 49 days, the students got very sick. Everyone was so sad. But then, on Lag Baomer, the people stopped to get sick. Everyone was very happy.

Lag B'omer is a time we have outings to the fields. We march in parades, make bonfires, dance around it, and sing songs. Children also play with bows and arrows.

We all enjoy singing the songs on how to be nice to one another.

Song:
2x Amar Rabi Akiva.
V'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha.
2x Sheli shelcha shelacha sheli.
Zeh Klal Gadol Batorah.
What’s mine is your I’ll share with you.
If you need me I'll come through.
This is the way of the Torah.

Song:
Don’t walk in front of me I may not follow.
Don’t walk behind me I may not see.
Just walk beside me and be my friend and together we will walk in the ways of Hashem.
2xV'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha.
 Zeh Klal Gadol Batorah.

We made a project:"People dancing around bonfires".

On Thursday, May 7 we celebrate Lag B'Omer  together with all our Per-School friends. We made a pretend bonfire and roasted marshmallows.

We had a wonderful time parading around the Shul singing and Dancing.

We then played a game, to pickup all the little hearts and glue them on the big heart.

A special thank you to our friends from the per-k 2 for the heart cookies that they baked and shared with all the preschool.

  CHAG SAMEACH!
